Aranmula Parthasarathy Temple

The Aranmula Valla Sadhya is an annual ritual made as an offering to the deity Lord Parthasarathy, another name for Lord Krishna, at the Aranmula Sree Parthasarathy Temple.

It comprises over 70 dishes which could probably make the sadya one of the most elaborate vegetarian feasts served in the country. Held on the day of Ashtami Rohini, believed to be the star sign of Lord Krishna, the sadya is partaken of by the deity from the devotees who sit for the feast. The story goes that in order to please the Lord, every dish anyone asks for is given during the Valla Sadya.

On the day of the Valla Sadya, a  group of oarsmen arrive to circumambulate the temple in a boat, singing vanchippattu, or verses in praise of Lord Krishna. The Valla Sadya begins immediately after the ucha pooja or afternoon pooja at the temple.
