Angamoozhy

The name Angamoozhy is derived from the words aana, meaning elephant, and moozhy, for town, in Malayalam.

Angamoozhy finds mention in the 19th century, proving its historical significance. It is the gateway to the famed Sabarimala Dharma Sastha temple, with pilgrims returning through the Angamoozhy route via Plappally. It leads to the one-way road connecting Sabarimala at Vadasserikara. The proximity to the Western Ghats makes the region even more fascinating to pilgrims and travellers. The area also has a few dams. The high ranges have tea, coffee and rubber plantations apart from pineapple, tapioca, ginger and pepper cultivation.
